Description
The University runs a Sun Microsystems SunFire
6900 computer in support of statistical software, molecular
modelling and sequence analysis packages, as well as a variety
of higher-level database-driven products.
This
server is driven by 24 Sparc III processors operating at 900
Mhz and has been partitioned into multiple, independent computing
domains, each dedicated to particular computing tasks. Resources
including processor and storage can be moved between domains
without affecting production operation. The server is complemented
by a RAID configured Storage Area Network System (SANS) capable
of holding 8 Terabytes of data.
The Scientific Server Address
This server is reached by either of the following
addresses:
emboss.umdnj.edu
siriusc.umdnj.edu
Requests for Account
Most students and researchers will want only web-based
access to the EMBOSS suite. Access to the web-based EMBOSS suite (known
as EMBOSS-Explorer) is freely-available at http://emboss.umdnj.edu.
Some students and investigators may want
an interactive "shell" account to access applications on
the scientific server including
- EMBOSS
- those molecular modeling applications
housed on the University's Scientific
Server and listed on our comprehensive
applications list
- and statistical software
If you think these applications would be of use to you, please see the appropriate AST page.
For additional assistance, contact one of the following individuals:
- Molecular Modeling and Structural Bioinformatics
- Sequence Analysis
