Broadband Networks, Internet2 and Clinical Informatics: How Will They Impact Future Practice and Delivery of Health Care, Education and Research?
|
Co-Sponsored by theUMDNJ IAIMS Project, Informatics Institute andDepartment of Information Services & Technology
As a member of the Internet2 consortium, UMDNJ is now connected to over 200 leading edge academic institutions in the United States through an advanced, high bandwidth, low latency network, purpose-built to support research and education, and to provide a framework for the emergence of even higher performance networks in the future. At the same time, IST in collaboration with the schools and units is completing its own next generation network to support increasing demands for performance, reliability and security. The convergence of these two developments, facilitated through our connection to NJEDge.Net, the State's Higher Education Network, translates into new capabilities, not only within the confines of Internet2, but within the University and among our collaborators across the State of New Jersey and beyond. The objective of this day is to introduce these new capabilities, stimulate awareness in "next generation applications" and the ways they can advance our research and educational agendas and provide practical information for getting started in this new arena of high bandwidth communication.
